--for Yuuka and Kaud--
Light paws treaded through the undergrowth, before pausing lightly. Sun only barely filtered through the tree's here, dappling the light curly pelt with the shadows of the leaves that danced in the breeze. She could scent everything on the breeze that passed her here, deep within the woods that lay on the very outskirts of cross creek tribes territory. The forest was thickest here, and the dense nature of it kept the earthy smells stagnant and the moss at her feet constantly damp. Not os much that it was a swamp, no, the earth under her paws was quite dry but yet mist seemed tocling to the air and grasses, creating a constant dew that sparkled when the sun that filtered in hit it just right. This section of the woods was not for the faint fo heart, but those who treasured the woods love this part of it's beauty best of all. The way it made everything feel brand new, like a secret gift found among its depths Yuuka treasured it. She came here often, found solace here, especially in hunting. Hunting seemed to calm her in ways no other task seemed to be able to. Fishing was far to frantic, not to mention slippery, smelly and slimy. Exploring was great fun, a good adventure, but that was what rbought out her fun loving side, this forest hunting brought out the earthy side to her. The calmer side that she appreciated, a place where silence was comforting with no need to be filled by loud and often hilarious conversation. Here glances said more words than any bark, and the hunters like her ruled. She knew every scent trail for deer and caribou alike, her most frequent prey of choice. For seals she'd have to venture to the ice and water where she detested, since for some reason teh dark waters that lay beneath ice terrified her. Bear hunting was possible here in her favourite place, but it was dangerous and not something one could do alone.
She paused, ears perked, body still like stone when a snap alerted her to the presence. She ahd been here so often she knew immediately it was the caribou herd she had been stalking over the last little while. She had left early in the monring, while it was still unlikely that her handler would need her for anything else. If she was there, she'd happiyl help her handler to whom she owed her comfortable life style that she enjoyed so much, but if she was out hunting she knew that Sozin would manage, find anotehr to take her place whole Yuuka skirted away to this happy place. Kodama, anotehr tokota who was frequently found in these woods but only by that flash of tawny fur, was never requested by her handler. it was well known that nothing was ever asked of him, that he roamed these outskits and kept an eye on everything, bit nothing more. She thought that she would run into him more, when she had first found the beauty in this place, but instead had realized that the merle male was as elusive as ever in these woods. In all her time here, beyond catching a brief glimpse of him, he had otherwise been out of sight and often out of mind. She rarely thoguh about any tribe mates here in fat. Her blue eyes watchign as the caribou ate in teh tree's just beyond her, still unaware of her presence. Here she was invisible, and she liked that. It let her mind wander to things beyond the worried of a tokota within a pack. She never had to care where she lay on the social ranking, or what was going to be asked of her and with whom she'd have to do it with. She may consider herself easy to get along with but that was a long stretch from saying she got along with everyone.
She stopped, tensed for a second but it was to late. Her mind had wondered to far form the task at hand and with a burst of speed she burst through the rbush and began to wind through the tree's racing after the caribou that had startled and took off ahead of her, running furhter inwards of the territory. Paws beating against the earth, she quickly whipped past tree after tree, narrowly dodging brances as she raced to try and get a lead on them. She had singled out one in particular, a female who seemed to have had a limp earlier though all traces od it seemed long gone now as Yuuka raced behing it. The caribou ran with seemingly no worry towards its leg, but Yuuka was noticing fast that unless that leg gave out or she had sudden help, btoh of which seemed unlikely, that she would lose this hunt that she ahd spent all morning trying to pin down.
"AWWwoooooooo~" She let her voice ring out through the tree's startling the birds into the clear blue sky. It was a small dash of hope that she was not alone out here, small, but she would try anwyay as she forced her paws to go faster, faster, detemrination sinking in to land this doe ad be able to bring it home for food.
