Tokota's Present: Dichali, Ashitaka, Mononoke Handlers Present: Hazel, Sozin
~~~~~~~~~
Hazel looked out, but the sky was only getting darker and darker. This was bad, really bad. Despite being almost summer, a spring storm had rolled in with pelting rain and harsh winds. The trees were swaying so far in the wind she was sure that by tomorrow a few would have fallen right down. She glanced outside, knowing there was quite a few tribe mates who hadn’t come back yet from their day's duties, having left early in the morning when everything was bright and sunny and had spoken no warmings of the weather that was to come. Plus, they may not be the only ones... Anyone could be out there right now, braving the terrible weather.
Anyone like Sozin, who was still out there after having left early in the morning to go exploring. Davin was out too, and they weren’t the only ones.
That was it, she had waited long enough. Slinging the bag over her shoulder, stacked tightly with sleeping bags and as much food and water as she could handle, she raced out into the terrible weather to try and fight the sinking feeling in her stomach, the knot that said just how bad things were getting. She had to go try and help before things got much worse.
“Dichali! Let’s go!” She yelled out into the rain storm, and soon her tokota was by her side and she leaped on, there was no time for saddles and reins right now. If anyone were caught in this storm they’d be heading for one place, and one place only: the caves. Tucked deep within the mountain range to the north of the tribes lay a maze of twisting and winding caves. Anyone who was looking to escape the oncoming storm would have headed there, and Hazel could bet they’d be ill equipped.
Racing out into the storm she headed straight north. She had no time for fear. She had to be there to help those in need, and she’d have to get there quickly.
----
She could hear the rain pelting against stone, no matter how far she went in to the caves. Sozin was far from comfortable in teh caves, she felt their presense dark adn loomy. If she hadn't been out exploring with Mononoke and Ashitaka she would never have been in here. They had actually been exploring near the base of the mountain, far from the caves, when out of no where the summer storm had hit and they had rushed to safety, having almost gotten hit by a falling tree on teh way here though.
Thankfully, mononoke and Ashitaka where pups and had thus fille dhte little red cart they had carried with things that had seemed useless at first. Now, in a large cavern, they had proved useful. In other words, they had brought sticks and stones. Using the stones ot make a fire, she had lit the sticks to make a campfire in the middle for heat and light, and stuck the sticks in the side as well. She wanted anyone passing by to no they where in here, alone for now. They hadn't brought anything with them. She had brought ehr llunch, a few treats, and fo course the little red cart and its contents but nothing more. That was hardly enough if the storm continued on, which was why this cavern was perfect. From here, she couldn't see the entrance so she could not watch it go on and on which made her worry less, hopefully. She hoped her sister hadn't been caught out in this storm, or the other members of her tribe. All she could do now though was rub her hands close by the fire, Ashitaka and Mononoke snuggled around her, and pray it didn't continue on for to long.
Vinheart looked out from the cave opening, the dark clouds and rain making it impossible to see even 2 feet away. The trees were groaning in the wind, leaves flying about noisily as he rain and thunder roared overhead. She sighed, unsure on the mess she had gotten into. She wasn't prepared for such a problem as she was stuck in now, she was hardly prepared for this. Only packed for a small hunting trip, with her chosen weapon of a bow and her quiver of arrows, some snacks to last for a few hours, enough water to last a day maybe and some food for her traveling companions.
Akane just looked down at his Handler from where he lay, Vinheart leaning against him with her arms folded on her chest. Svart, Vinh's newest addition to the pack, had travelled farther into the cave, his black fur making most sense to let him go farther in and be safe staying out of any danger's sight. When the large Yeti came back and laid down with his head on Vinh's lap she guessed he found nothing that could help them in anyway.
"Why? Why on all of the day's a storm could have hit, it had to be today when we did not have the correct equipment?" She complained, holding her face on her hands as she leaned further into Akane's side for comfort.
Svart whined, trying to get his stressed Handler's attention off whatever she was worrying about.
Though Vinheart's mind was set on trying to figure out why she hadn't recognized the storm was coming. After living in Florida all her life in an area of constant rain, she thought she would have saw the signs of an oncoming storm, especially as bad as this one. Yet she found no evidence of it earlier in the day, no feeling of the air being thick, no fishy smell of water in the air, perfect clouds that were high up and scarce, even the needs were out buzzing around. There was nothing that gave away the storm was coming.
Vinh had been tracking a moose when the storm hit, followed the large animal to a small patch of trees in the middle of a far open field. Trying to herd the animal towards Svart while riding Akane, it started to sprinkle lightly, though the skies were still quite clear and she had felt she had time to make it back after getting the moose. All at once it began to happen, lightning struck nearby, the rain hit down on them like a wall of water, the winds nearly toppled Akane over and actually threw her off him it was so bad. When Svart came running, already soaked to the bone and his long fur sloshing around.
Then a tree came down, sending Akane running in fear as more thunder rolled through the skies and lightning flashed, the only light in the whole area. Svart had disappeared in the now shadowed landscape, giving Vinheart the only choice to try and find shelter, hoping that the Yeti would stay put until it stopped raining so they could search for him. The pair had lost all sense of direction running across the open area, only barely able to see the familiar mountains in the distance as they raced the storm to find shelter before lightning hit them in the open area.
Both Vinh and Akane were soaked to the bone upon even getting close to the tree line that symbolized the forest at the base of the mountains, allowing them only slight cover from the pounding rains. Traveling as fast as they could through the thick foliage without falling over roots, holes and small ditches they finally navigated out to a clearing that met a cliff face, and under an overhang stood a cave entrance, the sharp rocks like teeth and the dark chasm the throat of a beast they would not escape from if they entered during such horrid weather.
It was the only choice they had, an upon entering the intimidating and terrifying cave they felt relief on the rain finally being off their backs and not causing heavy pressure as it came down. Sliding off of the red male and removing the saddle and saddle blankets he shook the fur fiercely off, splattering Vinh lightly though she didn't mind much being soaked already.
A bark caught both of their attention, and in came a dripping wet Svart, black fur looking even darker with it being wet. Shaking off some of the water in his thick fur he walked over to Vinh and gave her a long sloppy lick on the side of her face. She roughly pushed the large make away, wiping her face off with an upset expression as she glared outside the cave at the rain.
"This is why I hate new places," She grumbled. "I can never memorize how to get around..."
Eventually she wrung out her clothing of most water to not feel so sticky, also making Svart shake off as much water as he could so he didn't decide to give her a hug of waterlogged fur after she manages to dry off for the most part. That is how she happened to get stuck in the one place she scared of the most.
A system of areas she did not know, in the middle of the dark, in complete silence.
Handler: Kunik Tokotas: Pukajaak, Patuktuq, Tungortok Aok __________________________________________
Almost as if morning had finally come, a beam of light shattered the cold, hopeless darkness through the midst of the summer storm. The cacophonous crash followed it like a shadow, loud enough to seemingly rip a whole in the sky itself. The pelting rain fell like a sheet, with no beginning and no end; it was a solid wall of water, thick enough to drown in. A small woman, almost frail-seeming beneath the might of the storm, was tearing desperately forward with her three companions. She was undoubtedly blinded, relying on her charges' senses of smell to guide her through the gale.
Of the three, The leader was a golden male. His thick mane, now streaming with water, usually reminded one of a mighty lion. His eyes were determined, as if he were battling the rain with his soul as well as his body. The second was an enormous female, grey enough to nearly disappear in the dismal storm. Her stature, taller by far than either of her companions, sheltered her human from the roaring winds. A fiery spirit burned behind her eyes, angry at the universe. The last, most feeble creature was a chocolate male. He hadn't the thick coats of the other two, and his body trembled with cold and fear. His head was hung low; he was terrified. A low whine escaped his lips, but was drowned out by the tempest all around him.
As the sorry group clung to the edges of the steep rock face, they were buffeted by more than the wind and rain. Hunger pains, fear, and hopelessness tore through them all. They hoped desperately to find shelter in the caves somewhere along these rocks, if only they could find the entrance. Kunink's tears mingled with the water flowing down her face. Only just that morning, the skies were clear and cloudless, and the four of them had been enjoying the summer sun. She had decided to go exploring that day down by the evergreen forest when the clouds had begun to roll it. It started off as just a single cloud dotting the sky. As the hours passed, a few more clouds swept across the sky, but all were fleeting. Kunik and her pack had thought nothing of it. The day was warm and bright, and it was their first outing all together in the sunshine. They were having the time of their lives. When the group had become hungry, the four worked together to bring down a large stag and Kunik divided it so they could share their spoils. But as she lit a fire to cook her small section, the three Tokotas disappeared. She raced through the woods after them, laughing all the way. She reached them eventually, perched precariously on the edge of a steep cliff, staring off into the horizon. Noticing their worried glances, with their ears pinning back and heads low, she followed their gaze. Off in the distance, the sky was black.
Not having the time to turn back home, Kunik climbed on Puka's back and charged down the steep cliff face. The agile creatures were able to leap from ledge to ledge, finally landing on the soft ground beneath, and gallop parallel to what would hopefully open up into a cave system. But it had been over an hour, and they had not yet found their way inside. The rain had made it impossible to gallop, so now they were simply plodding along, hoping to get there before they collapsed from exhaustion.
With a yelp, Kuink tripped and fell in the mud. Her face was splattered with thick black sludge, and she burst into sobs. She was so tried and afraid, and worried that her three Tokotas wouldn't be able to make it somewhere safe if she were to perish. Puka lowered his head gently, and licked his owner on the cheek. He could feel her hopelessness. With a whine, he nudged her with his nose until she stopped crying and began to smile at him. If he could keep his homes up, then she could too. She slowly rose to her feet, and attempted to lean against the ledge for a moment to catch her breath. Where she though rock had been only a moment before, she only found air. She fell.
She landed roughly, tumbling into the mouth of the cave. He cried out in surprise, and then in joy. Puka, Patu, and Tung yelped joyfully, bounding and leaping around the tunnel. They were convinced that their trails were over. But they were very wrong.
Tokotas Participating:Ricus - fav.me/d8msr52Kynareth - fav.me/d8yuwscKadel - fav.me/d8yssct(Tribe Tokota)Roman - fav.me/d8rlnd9Handlers Participating:Davin - fav.me/d8mvz2tI wrote half of this before bed as a story to go with potential art but you know...fleshy RP posts. >-> -gross sobbing-
With wild and panicked green eyes a young man raced through the wild storm. It was so sudden and so violent when it hit. The lad had no idea what to do. It was only moments before that he had four tokotas with him but now he could nary sight hide nor hair of just a single one of them. What worried him most was that two of those tokotas were still pups. Too young to fend for themselves without another’s aid and far too young too yet understand what was going on. It was the sudden thunder that had spooked them all at first. After sending the pups who knows where, the cream tundra Kyne was quick to chase after them and was soon followed by Ricus who cowered before running off in the nearest direction of safety. Everything had gone so wrong in just an instant. The day had started so promising... A lad with pale northern skin and dotted with freckles stepped outside with a tokota puppy in his arms. His strawberry blond hair was spiked up in his usual bed head styling as his eyes were half laden with sleep. He was dressed warmly in a peter pan green tunic that was lined with furs. Dawned upon his legs were dark gray pants that ended with fur shin guards tied with leather strips to his lower calves. On his forearms were similar fur guards that reached down to his fingers using more leather with which a small metal plate sat on the back of his hands. The plate was engraved with intricate designs and a symbol which appeared on the bangles that were wrapped on his upper arms. To anyone else this was strange looking normal attire but this sort of day called for gear that would be suitable to an afternoon out in the wilds. The puppy in his arms had a light, dusty brown looking pelt with lighter accents on his underside and face. His vibrant green eyes peered out at the bright sunny weather in anticipation at being allowed out, finally, after being locked up indoors for so long. With brisk steps, the young man directed himself over towards another building that was nearly double the size of the long house he had just exited, and upon reaching it he pulled a large wooden door open and entered. Within the building were stalls specifically built to hold tokotas until they were let out to roam the territory or were needed for one thing or another. After closing the door behind himself and setting the tokota pup down, the blond lad walked deeper into the housing until he was able to reach the general area where his own tokotas were kept. He glanced over one of the gates to spot two of his tokotas nestled into each other sleeping soundly. Davin smiled gently at the sight. Bran's larger tawny body had made a perfect pocket that could just fit Alune's little, ruddy coated, puppy body into the space between his paws. It was somewhat surprising catching the two of them sleeping like this when majority of the time they were running free and playing. It had been such a relief seeing the two get along so well since they had met. Things had been going a lot smoother since Bran had something he was able to direct his energy at now. Farther along the stalls was the brother-sister duo that Davin had received a while ago. As he peered into their stalls he noticed the male was sound asleep contrary to his pied sister who looked eager to get out for a little while. Her coat was half white but with a gorgeous shade of light cream peeking out to share her true coloring. With a chuckle Davin called her outwards to which she happily obliged with a shake of her mane. Next he headed over to where his main companion stood. It was easy to see that the seal tokota had been waiting at the edge of his stall the moment Davin had entered the stables. After a quick pat to the male’s snout Davin released him as well to join Kynareth who had been impatiently waiting to go outside.The cream tundra female’s ears perked suddenly and she whipped around to glance at the being that was currently gnawing on her hind leg with small, sharp puppy teeth. The older tokota gave a sharp shake of her leg to free herself from the bite-happy brown pup before she bent down to pick the pup up by the scruff. Davin chuckled as he walked over to lightly tap the pup on the snout. “I guess Kadel will be joining us as well then,” he said with a grin as he looked up to the face of Kyne who returned his words with a skeptical glare. Since it looked like Kyne would be busy with the pups and because she had not quite been broken in to wear a saddle it was up to Ricus to carry everything. The lad turned back to the seal male tokota and began packing together some things they might need for a day trip together. Some rations of food for the tokotas, dried jerky for himself, and a satchel of water were a few of the things he took care to pack tightly into one of the bags. Once everything looked situated Davin turned back to the others and began herding them to the doors. He kept a close eye on Roman and Kadel as they bounded through Kyne’s legs. “Let's head out then,” he cheered as he picked up the tawny male pup and mounted Ricus. ... A crack of thunder boomed over his head causing him to jump in nervous fear. His stomach dropped at the thought of his tribe mates out in this kind of weather. They could be in any number of dangers that this storm could turn up. After a moment of negative thought about what was going wrong an image of Hazel floated up to his conscious. He couldn’t help his curiousness at why he had thought of her. Sure they had been spending more time together to train and care for Dichali but to think of her now of all times and places. Davin shook his head to hopefully get his mind back on track to the problem at hand. His hands cupped around his mouth as he shouted the same names he had been for who knows how long. “RICUS! KYNE! ROman... Kadel...?” he called out for the twentieth time since he had lost them. His hope began to drain as he continued trudging on the muddy path to where he believed the territory's well known caves would be located. They would at least be a small refuge from the constant onslaught of rainfall and wind, and, if he was lucky, that would be where Ricus had run off to as well. The seal tokota still had all of his supplies and if the storm was to last for a long time, he would be stranded and not in a good position at all. A shuffling from a thicket to his left caught his ear and he zeroed in on the shadowy figure that soon loomed over him as the being emerged. With a grateful sigh Davin realized at last that it was Kyne and under closer inspection he spotted a small Kadel pup dangling from her jaws as a shivering mop of wet, brown fur. He stepped closer and cooed grateful praises to the cream tundra tokota. She seemed rather unfazed by the weather, if not excited about the unfortunate circumstances they were under. With a leading hand, he began to guide the pair into the direction he had been going. If they were lucky, they might be able to run into Roman and Ricus on their way.
Handler: Sozin, Hazel, Tang-Ki Tokota's: Dichali, Ashitaka, Mononoke, Catori and Tsuki
-----
Rain could be heard splattering against the cave walls, but in here it sounded like a soft echoing pitter patter, nothing that spoke to the tremendous rain storm that was going on outside. However, the thunder boomed and crashed around them, and the lightning would light up the tunnels just for a brief second before going back to darkness. Hazel had only just entered the caves from a northern entrance, racing in with Dichali. She was not far in when a familiar bark greeted her.
"TANG-KI!" She said, dismounting and running over to where the bunny eared handler sat mediating next to Catori and Tsuki, it was Catori she hugged in a tight embrace.
"We where supple to be hunting." Tang-ki said, and Hazel, petted both the light and the dark pelted tokota's who seem genuinely happy to see her. Hazel hugged Catori tightly, as the piied barred female licked Hazels face. She remembered asking Tang-Ki to take Catori out hunting now, but she had totally forgotten when she had said out into the rainstorm. At the time, her thoughts had been on other thins like her sister. Her sister...
"Have you seen Sozin?" She asked and Tang-Ki shook his head.
"I have not, but I will stay close to the entrance and greet any whom come by." He said, seeming rather calm despite everything. It was eery actually, but Hazel shook if off. Tang-Ki was one of this epeople you just never bothered to try and understand. If you tried, you'd end up with more questions than when you started. However, he was great with tokota's and a good help around the tribe so Hazel was glad he had decided to stick around.
"Well I'm going to take Catori with me if you don't mind, Tsuki as well, since they know the most tokota's so they can probably help calm anyone down when I find them." Hazel said and Tang-Ki simply nodded, which Hazel assumed meant he was ok with it. She left him with some supplied of course, a small saddle bag full of food since she had one more strapped to Dichali. She could only hope that it would be enough, who knew how long these rains could go on for. It had been while since she had seen such a downpour but she could remember watching them go on for days as a kid, but then again it had always rained more where she had come from, far form here of course but in a land still just as snowy with tokota's tromping about. Thinking of childhood made her think of her sister, who had always been the talented one. it was said that those born with ears and a third eye like her sister had mental abilities beyond that which was considered normal, and her sister had always had a strange knack for getting feelings when something bad was about to happen, so how come this hadn't been sensed? It was strange, none of this made any sense to the blond who was struggling not to get consumed by fear. How many of their friends where out here? Was Davin out there stuck in the rain? The thought made her heart ache with worry, since Davin and her had become good friends during the days before where he had been so kind in dropping everything to help her. Was he out there now? She shook her head, she couldn't focus not that, not right now. There where probably others in this cave who needed her help and she needed to remain calm and collected. A nose touched her shoulder and she turned to see Dichali, who was calm but his hazel eyes showed his concern and reminded her they had to keep going. She had to help everyone she could. Luckily she had also packed some large twigs and matches so when she mounted she took them out and stuck them as into the walls where ever the holes where large enough so that they could light up at least some of the area.
She could only hope she found anyone else that could be lost in these saves. There was a crash, echoing through out the tunnels and Catori and Tsuki took off towards it. Hazel considered following them, but the two could handle it, she figured, and she thought she heard whimpering down this other way so she let them do and inured they'd all meet up later, since Catori was one of her best trackers and knew her scent well enough to follow it when it was days stale.
-------
Catori and Tsuki took off where they heard the crash, running through the tunnel maze with swift paws that thundered against the smooth stone and let the noise echo all around them. Lucily they had been together, and the two friends had kept each other sane as they had gotten caught in the storm with Tang-Ki, who although helpful was not their handler. Catori had been greatly relieved to see Hazel, only now she had other things to worry about. From the sounds of it someone had fallen, probably from a covered hole in the roof of the caves some where and Caotri could only hope that it was Puka. As bad as that sounded she'd rather find him after falling then not know through out all of this where he was and if he was ok. She was desperately worried about him, and she wanted to know he was out of this terrible weather and away from falling tree's and harsh winds. She wanted him safe, at home, if that wasn't to much to ask for but if she couldn't have that she at least hoped that he was here in the caves and that she would find him safe. She looked to Tsuki for solace, and in the black tokota's eyes there spoke understanding, because Tsuki no doubt had her own tokota's to worry about. Tsuki had two brothers and a father that could be out there some where... That was something Catori could never imagine, since she was practically an only child since none of her siblings lived in the tribe. Well, none yet. Sybil was pregnant with-
oh my gosh.
Sybil! All of the sudden fear flashed through her over her fathers heavily pregnant mate. She wasn't caught in this weather was she? Catori told herself that was impossible, Sybil was so large she could barely even waddle around the camp. No, she was probably at home in the barn with Kuruk.
Hopefully.
She turned a corner to scent Puka heavy in the air, but he was not alone. She let out happy barks regardless and rushed over to him and his handler, scenting both of them and licking them to make sure they where ok. Tsuki was beside her, sniffing the other tokota's that where present.
----
Sozin finally decided she had to get up and get moving. This doing nothing was driving her crazy and she was not alone. Ashitaka and Mononoke where both getting restless. There was little they could do, except to look around the caves However, if they went looking the chances of someone finding them went down. On the other hand if someone was out there and hurt there was probably more chances Sozin could find them. She took a second to dab ate which one she would do as Ashitaka and Mononoke danced around her legs, eager to get moving and get going somewhere. As thunder crashed the two ran in fear and hid behind larger rocks, despite slowly growing use to the way it boomed around the tunnels. Still, just the sheer noise of it was enough to startle the two black pups, why, it even put Sozin a little on edge but there was very little she could do about that. She picked up what they had with them, again wishing they had brought more. She could have at least packed food for a few days, why hadn't she? Right, because it had been beautiful when she had left that day, darn weather, How could things have turned to badly so quickly, seemingly out of no where?
"ok, ok lets go." She said, finally deciding. She just couldn't bear to sit here and wait for the weather to change and who knew how long that would be. At the very least they needed to find water or something, since she didn't pack early enough of that if they where going to stay for any extended period of time. Still, there was so much space within these tunnels, so many places to get lost. She didn't want to venture to far incase she lost her way.
heading out, with not a lot of hope and a ton of fear, she kept Ashitaka and Mononoke close beside her, though both the black pups seemed more than ok with that. Another boom of thunder rang through the tunnels and the black pups jumped, tucking themselves in-between her legs and quivering with fear but the three of them continued on regardless.
it seemed they had been walking for ages, when Ashitaka's earls perked. He looked ahead, and Sozin followed her gaze but at first she didn't see anything, but then mononoke became excited as well and leaped out from under Sozin's legs. Following them, Sozin's eyes continued to try to adjust to such darkness, and she suddenly felt that maybe she shouldn't have left her fire place at all. That was until she saw a dark figure in the tunnel not far form them, and whom ever ti was both Ashitaka and Mononoke greater it eagerly.
"Vin?" Sozin called out as they got close, an answer based simply on that was the only other handler her two black puppies knew well.
After sitting around at the mouth of the cave, she began getting quite annoyed and worried. Her clothes were fairly dry, but her hair kept too much water in it even when it was down to dry out. The water was freezing cold on her, and she was shivering as if an earthquake was making her move. Sitting against Akane for warmth and Svart basically laying on her help slightly, though they also were still slightly wet, they were a lot more dry than her and gave her slight warmth but not enough to keep her from getting goose bumps. The cold stone of the cave was not welcoming, the silent and chilly darkness made it worse, and with no sunlight showing through the rain anytime she felt like it was basically winter all over again.
Now she regretted deeply on deciding to go hunting alone with her Tokotas, with Svart being large he was still in his puppy stage and acted like one still. Akane was more calm and comforting to making her feel better, there still was little he could do for her. With being unable to talk, she was practically feeling the silence sitting on them, besides the thundering and lightning with the rain there was no comforting words, no noises. She was quite sure her lips would be blue or at least turning blue by now from how long she had been sitting in cold, wet clothing on the stone. Standing up, she motioned for Akane and Svart to follow her lead, which they both did as they had been taught to and knew to follow without question.
Looking farther into the cave she could feel something was wrong within, the storm trapping them inside the cave was a dangerous thing to deal with, especially if something worse was within the dark depths and could harm them. She had very little had felt such a thing before, only when being lost when she was 5 in the middle of the swamps in Florida. She had a feeling of something bad that would be affecting everyone, and sure enough there had been a storm almost as bad as the one now. The one she had stood through as a child was easier, as it was warmer in the southern area rather than northern. A fire started when the storm let up, which made her even more frightful and the dark feeling coming from the fire, sure enough when she reached safety and was brought home, the fire was put out but burned down a good half mile of vegetation.
Even now that feeling was small compared to how it was now, and she was afraid there were others in the cave that could either not sense the lurking danger or could and couldn't escape it with the storm. Leaning on Akane slightly she patted his shoulder.
"Give a warning howl, just to signal to others that we are here," Vinheart commanded quietly.
Akane then proceeded to toss his head back and let out a long howl, deep and pleading for someone to answer back, Svart joining in as it echoed on the stone walls. Once they were out of breath for the howl they headed into the shadows, going deeper into the caves with the sound of the rain becoming practically non existent. Once they had been walking for a good 5 minutes, Vinh could only hear her breathing and her Tokotas. When she heard little skitters of claws on the stone she stopped, Akane and Svart freezing as their ears perked forward as the sounds got closer and two familiar black pups leaped out of no where.
Mononoke and Ashitaka were jumping on her legs in excitement, thinking they were alone at first she looked at them in shock, then hearing her name and looked up to see Sozin. Automatic relief seeped into her bones, though her fear also grew because it meant others were also within the caves, where the danger could be lurking anywhere in the darkness.
"Hey Sozin," She greeted, petting the two pups. "Got stuck in the storm too?"
Tokota's Present: Kai Handlers Present: Emma
~~~~~~~~~
Emma left for the day to explore in the nearby forest in order to get to know the cross creek territory better, yet, just like everyone who was out that day, she was caught by the unforgiving rain storm that was starting out. "Kai, what are we going to do? It is too dangerous to go back now, it will only get worst!" She said. Kai looked up, but all he could see was trees, rocks and rain. Suddenly, kai heard a loud howl, he knew exactly who it was and was relief to hear a familiar voice. He howled back to warn that they were coming to them. "Good boy Kai, let's get going!!" Emma hopped on kai's saddle and they tried their best to get to the cave. Once there, She saw a few familiar faces. "Guys! I am SO glad to see you! I was sure I was going to end up lost out there!" She got off of Kai. As soon as she did, the male shook the water of his pelt and went in the cave to great his tribemates. He wagged his tail as he went to a person to an other, including the tokotas. "How is everyone doing?" asked Emma. "I hope the others are fine..."

Boots squelched into the squishy brown muck known as mud. He uttered another curse under his breath as he slipped once more on the soggy terrain. Everything was sticking to his body; his over shirt with it’s fur trimmings, his water repellent pants, and even his underclothes that at one point kept him warm in the chilled weather. It was uncomfortable to say the least and the garments only weighed him down at this point rather than kept him warm. The lacking purpose of his clothing exited his mind as he reached up to grasp a low branch to pull him forwards on his trek. To his left continued to trot an equally soggy furred tokota who kept her eyes peeled for the cover they were still searching for. Within the large tokota’s maw drooped a wet furrball. The tokota puppy let out a constant stream of whimpers that deadened the repeated battering of rainfall. Her once light dusty colored pelt became darker similarly to the dirt that they tromped upon. The older female’s ears perked as warm brown eyes peered ahead with better vision than her handler. With little to no warning she picked up her pace. The quickening action and unsteady ground almost toppled Davin and after a holler of scolding he finally sighted what Kyne had noticed. Sitting before the trio rose a wall of rock and earth with shrubs holding steadfast to the surface using resilient roots. It was a glorious sight to behold seeing as this meant that the caves were snaking underground before them. With newfound vigor Davin carefully jogged to catch up to his tokotas. Upon reaching where the tokota pair had raced he found the entrance with which they had been seeking. It was slightly hidden away from a passing onlooker, disguised with handing moss and thick shrubs at the base, but Davin could tell that to Kyne the extra foliage could not hinder the scent of a dry alcove safe and free from the cold, sharp rainfall. The young man let out a shout of triumph before ushering the piebald tokota into the mouth of the cave just as another crack of thunder boomed above them. The tokota immediately shook her fur out, but she was careful not to jostle her living cargo too much. Davin grinned at their luck as he worked to peel his shirt away so that his skin could breathe. The first obstacle was out of the way at least, but just as soon as relief had flooded him, it left without even a whisper of goodbye. Ricus was still somewhere with all of their provisions as well as a small Roman who could be alone and utterly terrified. Davin groaned as he peered out of the entrance and into the unforgiving downpour. Not only were his tokotas possibly still out there but some of his unluckier tribe members could be caught in the storm as well. He was torn on whether he should return out into the onslaught to help anyone still outside or to stay and wait for things to get better. He glanced over to Kynareth and Kadel. The small pup was at last set down onto the dry floor only to scurry and hide within the cream piebald's fur when Kyne had laid herself down. The lad sighed realizing that Kyne, who so far had a great temperament during this type of weather, would have to stay here to watch over the young pup. With one last remorseful glance into the storm Davin looked over to Kyne as he put his wet shirt back where it was. “ Stay here in the caves until I get back,” he ordered with a stern voice, leaving emphasis on the word “stay.” He took a few steps to exit the cave when a chorus of whimpers echoed and bounced off of the cold walls and into his ears. Davin turned around thinking that it was Kadel but upon a closer look at the blue eyed pup he found that there was another tokota deeper in the caves. The lad’s heart rose in hope as he jogged further into the cavern while his green eyes darted about looking for the source of the sound. He moved while strongly wishing to believe that the sound was Roman or, less likely but possibly, Ricus.

Hazel had been walking about the caves forever it seemed, and it was deep within these caves she heard the sound of an all to happy bark. She was started at first, jumping in surprise as a tokota barrelled towards her but she let out a sigh of relief as she realized it was one very close to her heart indeed. Sika, the brown chocolate roan that she had acquired only recently, pressed her head to Hazel's and Hazel dismounted Dichali and reached her hands up to pet the female. As she did this she realized Sika must have gotten loose and started running about in fear when the thunder and lightening started, as her pelt was still damp to the touch, she was shaking, and she smelled like wet dog, but Hazel had never been happier to see her. She had wanted to just hold her all day long, and for a while she did this, soothing the spotted tokota with tune she hummed as she stroked her. However, she couldn't do it forever when their where others in the caves and she was determined to find them and make sure they where ok. These caves, though precious shelter from the raging storm outside, where hardly what one could consider safe. Hazel wanted to make sure any travellers here had gotten here unharmed, or if they where harmed, she wanted to find them and tend to them as quickly as possible.
She was glad to not be alone though, she had thought she was fine with Catori and Tsuki going on a different way but the darkness of the caves seemed to loom around her, closing in despite having Dichali right beside her, and she suddenly felt better with the presence of one more living thing to hold on to for support. She supposed that was only logical, but the notion that others could be wandering these caves alone made her even more sure that she had to keep looking as long as the storm raged on, no matter how exhausted she was. She had to keep moving. She wanted to keep moving. Handlers lost in this weather could be her friends, her family. Her heart was aching enough as it was as she tried not to think about such things with little success, but walking would make her feel better even if standing here with Sika, breathing in the tokota's smell and stroking the soft fur, had calmed her slightly in this moment.
When the moment was gone, she moved to the vangough roans side, pushing herself up onto Sika's back, but making sure that the roof was high enough before lifting her head up. It was a tight squzze, the cave walls didn't go terribly high, but it was enough that she could sit up easily without worrying about hitting her head, she just couldn't go any higher than that without worrying that she would hit some of the more protruding rocks on the ceiling. Dichali stayed behind them, watching with eyes that showed only warmth, not rattled in this storm at all.
They padded along for some time, slowly treading onwards through one path, and then another. They twisted and turned, careful to leave a marker each time the path split so they could follow their way back home but heading all around, though they weren't totally sure they where actually heading in any deeper. It seemed they where staying at the same level as when they had started, just perhaps going closer to a different side of the mountain, although one could easily get disoriented in these mazes of cave tunnels so Hazel could't be totally sure. Instead, she let herself relax and just try and calm herself by knowing they where doing all they could, and Sika seemed alright. She was flaming down as well, the shaking she had when Hazel had first found her had subsided and the female tokota now seemed to be alright as they travelled along, though Hazel could tell that Sika did not like the caves and was tense about that, but she wasn't arguing it when the other option was the terrible weather outside.
That was when she heard a voice, a very familiar voice.
She turned the corner to find herself looking directly at Davin, who was on his own. She quickly dismounted and ran to give him a big big, tears practically stinging her eyes at her relief to see that it was him, and that he was alive and well and had braved the weather and managed to find this place of safety from the storm. He didn't have tokota's with him, which worried Hazel slightly, but Sika stayed close to them both and Hazel could hope that like she had let Catori and Tsuki go about, so had Davin with his tokota's.
"Davin, thank goodness it's you~" She said, before realizing that despite her hug seeming totally appropriate in the moment, now that she realized she was still holding onto him just as tightly it was perhaps a little to long for someone who was suppose to be "just a friend." Though of course she had feelings for him, and she certainly hoped he felt the same way, since nothing had been said one way or another she jumped back with embarrassment, tucking a strand of blond hair behind her long elven ears.
-----
Sozin nodded, giving a small stretch now that she had found someone else, she was surprisingly relieved. At least it meant she didn't have to be totally on her own with her tokota's, not that she normally minded but during events like this she kinda wanted a friend to hang around and share in the moment with her as crazy as the moment was. Like who could have known such a storm would blow in out of seemingly no where and take everyone by surprise? If she had known, she would not have brought out Ashitaka and Mononoke, but looking at them now checking out Vin's tokota's with careful and submissive sniffs she figured they where having a grand ole time with no idea how bad things really where. After all, the two black pups had no idea that they could be stuck here for who knows how long with a very limited amount of food and water, no, that was Sozin's to worry about and hopefully something Vin would not understand, but if she did, then at least they could sympathize and strategize incase they both needed to stay in the caves for a while... and they may as well do it together. "Like you would not believe... It came so suddenly, I was lucky we found this place, I worry quite a bit about those who are out there in this weather." Sozin replied, her face showing concern, more so because she didn't know who was out there that she had to worry about. She was pretty sure Hazel had been home when Sozin and left, but that was not to say her sister, or her many other tribe mates, and not been outside when the storm had hit and where out there now. . . It was a truly terrible thought indeed.

Vinheart nodded in agreement, "There wasn't any signs of it earlier today, not a single one," She sighed. She didn't like not being able to tell when a danger would come, not knowing where it was or what is was too ticked her off greatly. So with the storm, she felt useless. Not having been able to find some warning to keep others from going outside far from the tribe lodge. Even with her Tokotas, she couldn't hardly do anything because they were much bigger and she didn't pack for much longer than enough to last a few days if it was rationed correctly. -- Svart sniffed at the younger pups when they came up to him and Akane, Akane being a bit more cautious of accidentally stepping on one of them while Svart took first chance he got when the little curly to lick the pup's face. Meaning his usual lick he gave anyone he could at any time, Ashitaka's whole face with nothing but straight up slobbery the Yeti just seemed to have stored for licks specifically. After that he growled playfully at the pup with his tongue hanging out in a grin as he smacked Ashi on the side with his paw playfully to get the pup playing. Akane just watched as he sat down, finding the sight amusing though he didn't want any part of it so he stayed closer to Vinheart to avoid one of Svart's lovely kisses. --
Vinheart laughed slightly when Svart licked Ashitaka's face and seeing him trying to get the pup to paly with him. Both Svart and Akane didn't seem to show even a hint of worry, which she knew was how they would handle any situation. Mainly from Akane being a very laid back and calm male and Svart...being Svart he likely didn't care or had no idea on what was going on either way. With being a big dope, the Yeti often acted more like a pup than he did an adult Tokota with knowing when a situation required worry or no worry. She hoped he would grow out of it soon, or else he would get into some kind of trouble he would never really escape from again.
"So Ashitaka and Mononoke are taking the whole situation with stride I hope? Not too afraid of the storm and everything?" She asked Sozin, looking away from the Toktoas and towards her friend.

Kyne watched quietly as Davin walked cautiously into the cavern. The bond with her handler clearly not yet evident and she paid little mind to his doings. She turned back to her ward and with soft, brown eyes began the laborious task of drying out the mud colored brown pup. Kadel had started shivering against the piebald’s side which Kyne could not let go unattended. Her long tongue raked over the pup’s damp pelt and after a short time the young tokota had begun to calm down. She watched as Kadel’s head slowly bobbed up and down as the pup fought against weary sleep. Soon enough Kyne had managed to send the young pup into a quiet lull and with a satisfied sigh she began a vigilant watch out into the sheets of chill splitting rain. With one glance backwards to see the piebald tokota and brown pup disappear around a bend, Davin walked deeper into the cave system. He held one hand against the wall to keep his bearings. His fingers glided over the cold, gritty dirt and rock; running over protrusions here and there. His green eyes had adjusted to the light levels fairly easily and he could make out simple shapes in the cave. The rain still echoed off the walls and every now and then a crack of thunder broke through the monotonous trum of droplets soaking the earth outside. He couldn’t hear the whimpering much anymore but that didn’t deter him from continuing. Davin could feel his mind being pulled back to how Ricus and Roman were doing. He hoped that Ricus had at least found the pup and was watching over him. He didn’t know how long the storm would last or how long he would be separated from them. He could feel the weight of responsibility weighing down heavily on his shoulders. It was his fault for taking the pup out. It was also his fault that he couldn’t keep everyone together when the storm hit. All he could hope was that they were safe and that he would be able to find them soon. He hadn’t gone much farther when Davin heard footsteps coming towards him deeper still. He was a little apprehensive as there could be anything in these caves. Bears and wolves to name a few regulars since now there was a chance of so much more seeking shelter from the storm; Tribe members and their tokotas included in the long list. He was careful as he went on and soon he could pick up a second set of steps. Deciding that the likeliness of a pack of wolves jogging through the caves was rather low he picked up the pace to see who it was coming towards him. “ Hello?” he called out carefully. He could see a bend in the tunnel just ahead and as he approached it he came face to face with a speckle faced tokota. He let out a silent gasp of surprise before he spotted a bright blond head bobbing as she dismounted. His mind barely registered who it was he had encountered before she had crashed her body into his in a tight embrace. “ Hazel?” he exclaimed with surprise. The air suddenly feeling thin around him. He felt his damp clothing press onto his body more which initially sent an uncomfortable rawness through his skin, but as he returned her embrace he could feel the warmth she was giving off sooth the chills that had been sweeping through him. He was still alarmed at Hazel’s sudden appearance yet relief welled up as one of his nagging worries was laid to rest. " Haha Hey Hazel," he whispered lightly. The lass before him looked safe, and didn’t seemed harmed at all if not a bit on edge. He took a second to glance at who else was with her and found that beyond Sika was Dichali standing an appropriate distance away. Letting his nerves soothe, he fully relaxed into her arms while taking in a deep breath. Her words shook him out of whatever stupor he had placed himself in which caused him to mimic her reaction and pull away. The embrace had lingered on a bit longer than what he would do normally which sent his mind into topics of flirtation. A slight blush crept across his cheeks as realization sunk in. His hand naturally found the back of his neck to scratch idly at the base of his strawberry blond hair. Despite the hopeful situation, he could feel his gut starting to twist uncomfortably. He had no idea how Hazel felt about him. They had definitely bonded over the past weeks, but... she had been so dead set on Dante before he left. The heartless prick. It was easy to see how heartbroken Hazel had been for such a long time. Even once it had seemed like she had moved on and returned to her chipper self, Davin had no idea if she had ever really moved on from mister stoic stone-heart. “ Haha Yeah-,” he chuckled, “ I’m glad you’re okay Hazel. You definitely had me worried! -Er- Everyone else too of course.” He worked to keep his voice level despite everything. He cursed at himself internally before changing the subject. “ Speaking of, have you seen anyone else? Or Ricus or Rowan? They ran off when the thunder started and I haven’t seen them since,” he said feeling the guilt return.

It was so sudden that Hazel felt awkwardness spread over the conversation, she snuffed her feet slightly because of it not meeting his gaze for a bit. Everything had been so easy when she had just though of him as a friend! Now that she was all concerned about her feelings for him it was like she over analyzed everything that went on between them. She searched his smile of relief to see if there was more to it than just that, felt excited when he said he was relieved and bit back the selfish unhappiness when he included everyone else. She did not want to be lumped along with everyone else, not with him. It was weird she knew, but her emotions where all over the map and this storm had done nothing but make them feel more urgent, making them harder to ignore. Of course, once he asked about Ricus, and she saw the look in his face that she knew all to well, she suddenly let go of her bad emotions, instantly sympathizing. She had tokota's out here as well, but at leafs she knew they where either home or somewhere in the caves here... and of course anyone who knew Davin at all knew how much Ricus meant to him, the two had this unshakeable bond that was rare in tokota and handler. Even with her own tokota's she had rarely seen it, such thing needed to be strong from the start and then grown slowly over time. She liked to think that her and Dichali would have a bond like that some day though, but that didn't help anyone in this moment.
"I heard something in the tunnels a little deeper, but I haven't seen them no... Do you want me to help you look?" She asked him, full of concern for his tokota's, as her own heart pained a thte thought of how he must be feeling. She could only imagine, but didn't want to. Losing those you love, even for a moment, is incredibly heart braking and especially when accompanied by the fear of not knowing how they are. She knew the feelings of losing someone, as someone close to her had left her quite a while ago, but of course it still felt like only yesterday. Not that Dante, whom had left for the sunny and warm climates else where, had really ever been hers to begin with, her feelings had never been more than an returned crush and when he had left that knowledge had crushed her. She and been sad for longer than she cared to admit, and even now there where some days where she missed him desperately, even if he had always been cold, bitter and some times down right rude. Of course, it had helped to focus on her toktoa's and those she had around with her now. The tribe had grown greatly in numbers of both handlers and their tokota's. Sozin had been new to the tribe then. so hazel had also been getting use to having a sister back in her life, which had been weird even if she had liked it as well.
Of course, now, when she thought of him, her feelings where more mixed then what they had once been. A desire for closure she would never get, there was feelings of her lingering crush, of guilt for feeling that way, sadness that he was gone, happy that she had at least gotten to meet him and a kind of calm acceptance over what had happened. She didn't blame him, nor did she want him to have chosen differently. She had grown since she had left, she was more independent and didn't let herself get so carried away, although of course being emotional was still more or less a part of her personality but that was something she assumed she'd always have. So long as she could have more moments where she felt able to handle what life threw at her, and more responsible and mature. Not always, of course, but at least most of the time. That was what growing up entailed, she assumed. That one gets better at acting mature even when circumstances and personalities beg to react differently. Like now, looking at Davin with emotions of wanting to confess her feelings in the heat of the moment with everything else that was going on, but knowing now was not the time. She wasn't sure there would ever be a time, but she'd have to live with that she supposed. She didn't want to say anything that would ruin the friendship they had right now, the friendship that required her to just that right now and not complicate something that was already so full of emotions. Davin needed a good friend right now, someone who could help him find Ricus and Roman.
She could do that.
Right?
---
Ashitaka was bounding around the feet of the two tokota's they hadn't seen yet before when the big fluffy one suddenly licked his face and he let out a playful squeak of surprise. Even when the dark colored tokota drew back, Ashitaka could feel the wet slobber dripping down his face and in a puppy attempt to get rid of it he rubbed his face in the dirt. In his defense, it succeeded in wiping some of the slobber off, of course when he got up to see the yeti now looking at him in a playful position, his face was now still party damp and also covered in dirt, but Ashitaka paid no mind and instead crouched low in a playful position as well, just in time as the black yeti pawed him playfully. The black curly was certain it was all fun and games so the massive size of the fluff monster before him didn't scare him, especially when he felt his sister press herself against him warmly, giving a little puppy growl and bark for good measure in her attempt to get in on all the fun that seemed to be starting.
Both black pups darted towards the yeti, leaping towards him with similar movement to try and pin the body of fluff down on the ground, although of course they where expecting him to fight it which would make it all the more fun to try. The black pups hadn't been able to find playmates that often, since when they had first arrived they had been the only ones of that seemed to want to play so their tails where wagging furiously at the idea of having found a play mate for once. Even their handler, Sozin, who played with them some times was always careful, to careful, she didn't rough house like the tokota's wanted to, instead playing games of chase or fetch.
---
Sozin nodded as Vihn spoke. It was good to know she hadn't been the only one taken by surprise of course. She could guess though that this freak storm hadn't just taken them by surprise either. She was concerned about all the other tokotas and handlers that had been out in the storm, because she couldn't think that anyone would have been prepared for the way the storm had swept in so quickly with those winds and biting rain. Up higher in the mountains it was no doubt a howling snow storm, such the kind that left handlers missing the next day if they weren't careful. It was morbid, she knew, but that's just how it was. Living up here where the weather could be so treacherous one had to be realistic less they get caught in unfavorable situations, like she found herself in now. She should have known, should have seen some sort of sign even if thinking back she still couldn't think of one that would have clued her to it.
Vihn's tokotas where doing well, the ones that where with her at least. Akane seemed more hesitant but Sozin suspected that was more due to the tokota's personality than it was to anything that had to do with the storm, and Svart was a total laugh, trying to get down to puppy size to play with Ashitaka and Mononoke. Her two black tokota puppies seemed to be happy to have the instant fluffy friend though, and it seemed the black yeti had made them all but forget about the storm that was going on just beyond these caves. Sozin wished she could forget but it was like as soon as she found herself getting comfortable the thunder would boom, the lightening would flash lighting up the caves slightly though this far down it wasn't much. Still, despite feeling safer in these caves Sozin had to admit she was still on edge, not totally trusting that these caves would being them the safety they would need. When she had gotten here trees had been being picked up by the wind and being thrown around like tokota pup toys, and she was worried something in this mighty mountain might just crack leading to a chain of events of these caves collapsing.... but she tried not to think about it. She tried, because there was little else she could do. outside, the storm was raging on with such ferocity that it was suicidal to go out, so she had to stay put, and these caves had been here for ages so they should be sturdy... so she should be able to just believe in them and relax slightly or at least focus on and worry about what really matters. She wasn't usually a worry wort at all, she normally left that to her sister, but it seemed in this crisis although possibly seeming like she was handling ti wall pretty well she was just as much of a worrier as her sister.

Svart tried keeping up with the pups as much as he could, though with the two jumping one way and another and his bangs always in his eyes he kept mistaking shadows for the pups also. Finally catching on to following the pups as barked back, growling playfully as he drew his lips into a grin like snarl as he snapped close to the pups with his teeth, knowing he wouldn't catch one of them on accident. His long furred tail swiped across the cave floor quickly, making it so if one of the pups tried going behind him his tail would likely sweep them off their feet or send them sliding.
He kept pouncing down at them, trying to catch with either his paws or teeth gently. His thick and long fur slowing him down a bit than most would be moving, though he couldn't care less as there were puppies he could play with. Seeing as the puppies in his pack were Elsu's, the alpha of the pack and definitely not going to be one to let Svart play with his pups just out of precaution. Spinning around to try and catch Mononoke he accidentally ran into Akane, making the red male jump up and topple the Yeti over getting away to standing behind Vinh and Sozin, out of puppy danger's way.
---
Vinh smiled slightly seeing Svart playing and jumping at Mono and Ashi, not having seen the Yeti actually get to play with pups before as there wasn't many in the pack at the moment. The two who were in the pack were carefully protected by their dad Elsu. She found it funny as Akane darted away when Svart rammed into him. In turn of trying to run, knocking over Svart and tramping him tog et over behind the handlers for safety from the rough housing of the three.
She hoped Svart would soon grow out of his puppy nature, as he was defenseless against hostile animals as she had learned just a little while back when he had went off hunting moose with a group of other Tokotas. One of the others had gotten a slight limp, the others just a bit sore while Svart had came out untouched from she guessed running away. So the Yeti was not one to fight, but he needed to learn how if he wanted to ever be okay should others not be around to help him.
